Fairy Meadow Nanga Parbat Base Camp Trek
This trek is located in the Himalayas of Pakistan in Diamir district of Gilgit-Baltistan (Northern Areas), in the northern flank of the Nanga Parbat and few kilometers south of Karakorum Highway and Indus River at Chilas. Fairy Meadows is a lush green plateau at 3300M, offering breath taking view of the Nanga Parbat Mountain 8126M, also called “KILLER MOUNTAIN” because of its reputation that many climbers have lost their lives while conquer it. The Nanga Parbat is in the western part of the Himalayan Mountain Range, is the western anchor and then starts the Karakorum Mountain Range. It is the 2nd highest Peak in Pakistan and 9th position in the world, has been climbed first time by Mr. Herman Buhl, the Austrian climber in 1953.The lush green meadow and forests lie at the base camp of Nanga Parbat at the western edge of the Himalayas. Fairy meadow is very peaceful and relaxing place to enjoy of the mountain atmosphere and hospitality of the local people. Fairy Meadow offers easy access to the base camp of the above 8000M peak and one of the world’s finest mountain panoramas with several excellent day short side trips and climbs. This is one of the easiest trek in Pakistan and also easy accessible from the Karakorum Highway, suits all level of the trekkers. It is about 550km from Rawalpindi or Islamabad on Karakorum Highway to Raikot Bridge (1400M), from where you will have the local jeeps to Jhal 2700M one and half hour drive on amazing jeep road. The road ends at Jhal, where is tea shop to have tea or lunch, from here the trek starts, can have porters or horses too. It is 2-3 hrs easy walk on simple route to the Fairy Meadows 3300M, there are various camping sites also the traditional built wood huts, where your night could be comfortable. You may take your own sleeping tents but there are sleeping tents with mattresses and sleeping bags are available at the camping sites. You do not need to bring from down, meals are available in the restaurants. Here is nice place to be relaxed just in fort of Nanga Parbat. From here it is easy walk 2-3 hrs through the forest till the edge of the plateau called BEYAL 3500M and here are also the camping sites, huts and restaurants. A little ahead there is view point of Nanga Parbat that offers magnificent view of the North Face of Nanga Parbat and sounding mountains. You may have side one day trips around Beyal. You may full day excursion trip to the Base Camp of Nanga Parbat (3-4 hrs go and back to Beyal) that is about 3900M. Fairy Meadow is access from the Raikot Bridge which is on the Karakorum Highway, between Gilgit and Chilas. You may have the flight to Gilgit 1 hrs from Islamabad then by road to Raikot Bridge 50 Km. There is also option from Naran via Babu Sar Pass to Chilas and on KKH to Raikot Bridge.
ITINERARY:
Day-01
Arrival to Islamabad airport, meet with our guide and transfer to the hotel, sightseeing of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, overnight at hotel (If your arrival is in the morning can have the flight to Gilgit at the same day of your arrival or drive to Besham or Naran)
Day-02
Fly to Gilgit or drive to Chilas on Karakorum Highway (10-12hrs), overnight at hotel
Day-03
Drive to Rakiot Bridge from Chilas or Gilgit, transfer to the local jeeps and drive one and half hour to the Jhal then trek 2-3 hrs to the Fairy Meadows, overnight in the camp or huts. Jhal is just above the Tato village where can have tea and lunch, also can hire porters if you need or horse or donkey. It is around 5.5Km walk and 600m ascend to Fairy Meadows.
Day-04
Trek 2-3 hrs through a forest an easy walk around 5Km and 200M ascent to Beyal, then to View point and continue to the Nanga Parbat Base Camp 3900M, and back to Fairy Meadows for overnight in the tent or huts ( 7-8 hrs total go and back)
Day-05
Trek down to Jhal and by jeeps to Raikot Bridge then drive on Karakorum Highway to Chilas, overnight at hotel
Day-06
Continue to Islamabad, overnight at hotel
Day-07
Departure from Islamabad (drop to the airport)
